I'm totally dedicated to working toward that "not having to be in the office" factor. Let me give you an example: If you're at the airport or a friend's house and you hear something on the news about a stock that you currently own or were considering buying. You can simply grab your Smartphone and see how much you're making or discover that this might be a good time to sell. It's all right there in front of you. You don't even have to go online unless you plan to make a transaction, buy or sell.
Today's stock-tracking software will go online, download your ticker and place it in the proper spot in your portfolio. It will create graphs of your entire portfolio, or you can pick individual stocks to graph their history. I like to create a hypothetical portfolio for stocks I am considering, (paper trades). That way I can see what their trends are and how they seem to be reacting to the market indicators.
I also keep another portfolio in which I just track shares and funds that I probably wouldn't buy, just to see what happens to them. These portfolios are the most fun. I basically start out with a predetermined amount, then see how well or poorly I do.
I have three of these "pretend portfolios" right now. One started with $100,000, a second with $1 million and the third with $5 million. Of course, they aren't real, but it's fun to see what I could do if I had that to invest all at one time!
I can be as aggressive as I want without the risk of losing anything. This has been a great learning tool for me over the years. I've seen how some ways of thinking can lose or gain money very quickly. I've also learned to make a plan, follow that plan and sell when you planned to do so. It's helped me to learn to leave the emotion at home and as far from my portfolio as possible.

As I said, most of these programs will allow you to set them to automatically update your portfolio at a predetermined time each day Monday through Friday.
You need to take a look at each to see which programs fit your own personal needs.
I've used ''StockBroker'' for awhile and I'd definitely recommend it's use. It's by JabeSoft. I've also used Stock Analyzer by V-Sense Communications Limited. I've been very happy with both products.
If anyone has tried another program that they really like, please email me as far as which one you use and why you like it. A positive plug for the author is always nice. And I'll send the compliment directly to the author if it's ok with the sender.
